Sinquerim Beach Goa 

 

Sinquerim located 13 km from Panaji is one of the best beaches in Goa where one can enjoy water-skiing, para-sailing, fishing, scuba diving and windsurfing. The beach is known as the first tourist beach of North Goa and is a very famous Goan destination.The beach at Sinquerim lies adjacent to the Aguada beach. Near the beach one can see the famous historical fort Aguada that was built by the Portuguese to defend them from any attack from the sea route.

Sinquerim Beach boasts of an amazing shoreline with and extent of sand. The beach is located north of the popular beaches of Goa including Calangute, Baga, and Candolim. The Fort Aguada 

The fort was constructed in 1612 to guard against the Dutch and the Marathas. It was a reference point for the vessels coming from Europe at that time. This old Portuguese fort stands on the beach south of Candolim, at the shore of the Mandovi River. It was initially tasked with defense of shipping and the nearby Bardez sub-district.

With a historical legacy of about 400 years, Fort Aguada is a massive and marvelous citadel defining the landscape of Goa. The fort together with its lighthouse is one of the most visited attractions in Goa. Situated in Candolim, a major tourist hub in North Goa, Fort Aguada stands overlooking the Arabian Sea and offers mesmerizing views of the surrounding areas. The Reis Magos Fort 

Reis Magos is a village located on the northern bank of the Mandovi River in Bardez, Goa, opposite to the capital city of Panjim.Predating Fort Aguada by half a century, a second, smaller fort that crowns the headland jutting into the narrowest stretch of the Mandovi, almost facing the capital city Panjim, is the Reis Magos Fort. This Fort, surrounded by sturdy laterite walls studded with typically Portuguese turrets, was erected in 1551 to protect the narrowest point at the mouth of the Mandovi estuary.

The fort has also been skilfully repaired in recent years and partly restored to its former glory. It is clearly visible, with its distinctive reddish stone walls, all the way from Panaji which lies across the Mandovi River from it.

 

 

 

The Basilica of Bom Jesus

The Basilica of Bom Jesus is a Roman Catholic Church located in Old Goa and stands to be the oldest Church of Goa.The church completed its construction in the year 1604 and stands as an epitome of the Portuguese colonial architecture and Baroque architecture.The basilica is located in Old Goa, former capital of Portuguese India, and holds the mortal remains of St. Francis Xavier.

The body of Francis Xavier was first taken to Portuguese Malacca and two years later shipped back to Goa. It is said that the saint’s body was as fresh as the day it was buried. The remains of the saint still attract a huge number of tourists (Christian and non-Christian alike) from all over the world, especially during the public viewing of his body every ten years (last held in 2014). The saint is said to have miraculous powers of healing.

 

 

Tiracol fort

Tiracol fort, also called Terekhol, is a 17th century fort in the northernmost tip of Goa, bordering the state of Maharashtra. It is in the Pernem taluka, at the confluence of the Terekhol River and the Arabian Sea. The fort gets its name from the river. It is 48.7 kilometers north of Panaji. You can take a ferry from Querim beach to reach the site. The river crossing takes only a few minutes. Tiracol can also be reached by road after crossing the Kiranpani Aronda Bridge.
